At the moment all of the social groups are 'on hold' until new people volunteer to co-ordinate some activities.  We are able to assist some volunteers to get started and we encourage people to share the work with others to make it easy.  Please contact us if you are prepared to organise even just one activity.  For example you may like to simply arrange to meet other CFF members in your area for coffee to discuss the interest in other social activities.

AUCKLAND

Although the Auckland group is now 'on hold' the Auckland members did enjoy meeting together last year:

e.g.they enjoyed a beach walk, Indian Cuisine, Stardome Observatory Planetarium show, Movie night and meal.

Comments re group functions:
“We had a great time at the dinner. Great venue at low cost. We hope to have more events there in the future.”
“The show at the observatory was amazing with a real feeling that you are actually in space. After the show we got to look into a telescope and see Saturn.”
“16 turned up for the movie night. Everyone seemed to enjoy themselves.”

WAIKATO/BAY OF PLENTY

Very special thanks to the co-ordinator who had been actively involved in organising CFF outings for almost four years for CFF members in the Waikato and Bay of Plenty region.  She has stepped down now from group leadership.  The last organised activity (last year) was very successful with a zoo outing and a shared meal, plus watching rugby.  She suggests: “ Maybe the way to go for the moment, is for individuals to take responsibility for an outing.”

Another member organized a day function in Rotorua.
Members were encouraged to join others for a meal to watch an All Blacks game.

CHRISTCHURCH

The Christchurch group had been the most active until the co-ordinator met someone special in the group, got married and sailed off into the sunset!  We thank her for her past commitment and friendship, both of which will be missed by many in the group.

Canterbury members are encouraged to organise one-off events so that the good friendships and fellowship will continue.   There is still a strong interest among members to keep the group going.  Although there is not a new group co-ordinator there are organised functions over the summer months for CFF members.
e.g. a member in Ashburton organized a light meal followed by kayaking on Lake Hood and an evening meal.
Two members organised two walks.  It has been great to see the wider network of CFF(NZ) working with members from Oamaru and Invercargill  joining the group for a meal while they have been in Christchurch.
A group of 25 met for an evening meal the week before Christmas.  There was a walk at Corsair Bay in January and a boat trip to Quail Island in February.  Other functions coming up include shared meals, walks, movies, breakfast and a possible weekend away.

OTHER EVENTS

CAMP - CHRISTCHURCH SHOW WEEKEND Nov. 2009
There was a successful mini-camp weekend open to all single Christians with our normal 'Single and Significant' focus at Glenburn Youth Lodge in South Canterbury (near Geraldine).

Comments from happy campers:

  • "Thanks very much for organising the camp. It was a lot of fun and it was good to just be able to meet with other Christians in a non-threating way without expectations. Good to relax away from home as well."
  • "I really appreciated the group times/teaching and the fun times we had getting to know everyone.  It was a great bunch of people.
We really enjoyed the time at camp and I was a little sad to leave.  Hopefully we will be able to make it to some future events in Christchurch, as the camp made me realise how much I have been missing out by not having many other Christian singles to socialise with."
